Every year I try to beat more games. It’s always my resolution to beat even more than the year before. In 2017, I maybe beat about 3. Last year in 2018, I beat around 27. This year, according to the Nintendo yearly wrap-up site, I clocked in over 900 hours on Switch and finished 25 titles. I didn’t top my previous year but I still feel quite proud, completing so many. I’d also like to point out that I put some serious time into games that simply can’t be beat, because of their multiplayer nature or infinite nature. Overwatch, Minecraft, Slay the Spire, Super Dragon Ball Heroes & Yu-Gi-Oh. Yet, I will take this defeat in stride and make it my business to beat even more games next year. In 2020, I hope to have beaten over 30.
It should be pointed out that I only own a Nintendo Switch, so every entry on this list is a Switch game or port. So if you are looking for the best games on Switch in 2019, this is the list for you.
Let’s break it down…
Best FPS I beat this year: Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus (Youngblood is good too but not as satisfying as the main entry)
Best Bang Bang Shoot em up game I beat this year: My Friend Pedro
Best Port/Remaster Game I beat this year: Dragon’s Dogma
Biggest Surprise from me: God Eater 3
Best Bang for your Buck I beat this year: Cat Quest
Best New IP I beat: Astral Chain
Best story I beat this year: Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Game I put the most time into: Pokemon Sword (185 Hours)
And finally the one you all have been waiting for, drum roll please!
Best game I beat in 2019: Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a master stroke. A fantastic game with plenty of replay value. The voice acting, soundtrack and battle animations are top notch. The story actually had me worked up, I got a lot more involved than I thought I would. There are moments where the game can be a bit grindy but overall, the game is a joy to play and I can’t wait to go back and do playthrough two and three.
Wish me luck in beating even more games in 2020!
