iTuesday Review: Futurama Head in a Jar for iPhone

Futurama Head in a Jar isn’t technically a game, but I’m too big of a Futurama fan to pass up reviewing it. Besides, I had more fun playing with Head in a Jar than I did playing Prison Escape, which I reviewed last week.

In Futurama Head in a Jar you create different heads for your own personal Head Museum. Basically it’s a “create your own Futurama character” tool, only your just creating the heads (bodies are overrated anyway).  You can create humans, robots and aliens. I know, I know, why would a Robot head be in a Jar? We all know you won’t find a robot in the head museum, maybe the app is flawed in that way, but I got over it.

There are plenty of different choices to personalize your head. You can change their eyes; maybe make them a Cyclops, like Lila. You can change their nose; maybe give them a hideous zoidberg nose. Hair is also customizable, but only if you’re making a human. There are also a lot of cool extras you can add.

So what’s the point of all this though? What do you do with the head once you’re done with it? Well, you could share them via facebook or email, maybe your friends will get a kick out of what you’ve come up with. But what I think is pretty cool is you can add a head to one of your contacts so that it appears when they call you. I think this is a pretty cool feature and I will no doubt be trying to recreate my friends in head form sometime in the near future.

The app also includes Futurama clips from recent episodes and the ability to buy full episodes. It also has a feature where you can have it remind you when Futurama is on. Additionally, you can set it to have the reminders sent to you via text message, which would be useful if your using the app on an iPod touch that you may not always keep with you.

Overall if you’re a Futerama fan, Head in a Jar is an app worth checking out. Even if it were just a “create your own character” app, it would still be pretty cool, but the extra added features make it even better. Best of all, it’s free in the app store.
